Light at the End of the Tunnel

I remember telling myself in university that things will be better once this class is finished or that everything will be easier when this project has been completed. I specifically remember my boss asking me at the end of the first semester of junior year if I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. My reply went something like this, "I don't even see the tunnel yet, not to mention the light at the end of it."

Life at the time was chaotic, stressful, and overwhelming. I often wasn't sure if I'd get through it all. Much like how life has been recently.

But I'm starting to wonder if there is a light at the end of the tunnel at all. Or instead of focusing so much on this seemingly far off better, easier time, maybe I've been carrying a flashlight in my back pocket all this time? Maybe I've had access to something that throughout all the chaos can bring me comfort, joy, and relief. That maybe what felt so distant and unattainable was really right there waiting for me to notice it the whole time.

It's easy to be scared of the dark when it surrounds you and you can't see your way out. It's easy in the moment to panic and try to find your way all on your own. It's easy to forget that you have something that could help you right there in your hand, all you need to do is turn it on and let it guide you out into the radiant sunlight.

It would be understandable for me to feel overwhelmed and fearful of the darkness of loss and health that surrounds me now. It would be understandable to say that I don't see the tunnel nor the light at the end of it yet and feel discouraged. It would be understandable to feel lost, confused and frustrated. But I don't want to feel that way anymore.

I want to reach into my pocket grab my flashlight and let it's glorious light shine, making the darkness run and hide. I want to trust that my flashlight will guide me to safety. I want to be confident in my ability to walk through the dark without fear of tripping or stumbling.

Are you stumbling through the dark trying to find your way out? You have a flashlight in your pocket too. You just need to reach for it and let it guide you. Jesus is my light and He can be yours too.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
